As soon as the words came out of his mouth, Colin Marsh knew he would have to back them up.
Sure enough, when Marsh said, “I can do a better job with the food’’ at last year’s Mideastern Region social at the Gettysburg Summer Leadership Conference, he was challenged to prove it.
But as a culinary arts teacher at Bucks County Technical High School, Marsh wasn’t exactly in over his head. He also recognized a teachable moment when he saw one.
He decided that catering both of the region’s socials at Gettysburg this year would be a good project for his seniors. Five teams of students spent the last week of school planning and preparing the menus with food that could be frozen, transported, and reheated at Gettysburg.
Judging by the rave reviews by Mideastern Region members, Marsh and his students more than lived up to the challenge.
