Student teacher stipend program off to a strong start One of PSEA’s top priorities is getting more qualified, caring people into the education profession. Paying Pennsylvania’s student teachers for the important work that they do in the classroom is one way to do it.
Less than two months after Student PSEA advocates convinced lawmakers and Gov. Josh Shapiro to approve a total of $30 million for the new student teacher stipend program, several thousand Pennsylvania student teachers will receive $10,000 during their student teaching assignments.
This new program, administered through the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA), is a groundbreaking step that finally recognizes that student teachers should be paid during their 12-week student teaching assignments.

Now accepting nominations for 2025 Celebrating Excellence Awards! Do you know a community member, organization, or Student PSEA colleague who you think deserves special recognition for their contribution to public education? PSEA is now accepting nominations for the Celebrating Excellence “Adler Friend of Education” and “Human & Civil Rights” Awards. The Adler Friend of Education Award recognizes an individual who has made significant statewide contributions to public education. Adler Award recipients have included PSEA leaders, public officials, and others whose work has improved public education in Pennsylvania. The Human and Civil Rights Awards are intended to applaud the outstanding work occurring every day in Pennsylvania's public schools and in our communities. A selection committee meets each January to review the nominations submitted and select winners in four categories: Student Leader, Educational Leader, Community Leader, and Local Association, along with the Adler Friend of Education Award. Nominations must be submitted by Dec. 31, 2024. |

All donations will be distributed to affected NEA state affiliates for them to allocate to their members in need. NEA Member Benefits will pay any fees imposed by GoFundMe, so 100 percent of the money raised will go directly to supporting NEA members and their families.
