Pennsylvania House of Representatives passes top PSEA legislative priorities

Earlier this month, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed two bills that are among PSEA's top legislative priorities to help solve the educator shortage.

  • House Bill 141 will create a "Grow Your Own" program to help paraprofessionals and other school support staff go back to college to earn their teaching credentials.
  • House Bill 688 will establish the Pennsylvania Teach Scholarship Program, which will create an affordable pathway for talented, caring people to become teachers while lowering their student loan debt in the process.

Marina Lagattuta, Student PSEA PACE chair, shares why changes must be made in order to restore the educator pipeline in Pennsylvania. Click the button to read what she has to say.

Former Student PSEA president spotlighted at House of Delegates

Jess Porter, a former Student PSEA president and current third grade teacher from the North Hills School District, was recognized at the May 2023 House of Delegates for her advocacy work during the 2022 gubernatorial election.

Jess was part of PSEA's social media advocacy influencer program where she leveraged her growing TikTok following to spread the word about pro-public education candidates. In March, Gov. Shapiro welcomed her to his first budget address to recognize the great work she and all PSEA members do for public education.

Hear what Jess had to say about her experience.
