Right now, lawmakers in Harrisburg are negotiating the details of a revenue plan to pay for the budget they adopted in June. That bipartisan budget increases investments in public schools, but without a responsible plan to pay for it, those investments are at risk. This would be a problem across the state, because districts based their 2017-18 programs on these funds.
When school funding was cut in 2011, it came at the expense of student programs, including literacy and school libraries. Some districts even struggled to purchase books that students needed to learn. We cannot let anything like that happen again.
Let's keep libraries in schools and books in students' hands.
