HARRISBURG, PA (Sept. 27, 2024) – The Pennsylvania State Education Association is recommending Erin McClelland in the election for Pennsylvania treasurer.

McClelland started her career as a substance abuse and mental health counselor and later worked as a process improvement manager with the Institute for Research, Education and Training in Addictions. She also founded Pennsylvania’s first orthomolecular recovery program for addiction and has worked as a project manager for the Allegheny County Department of Human Services. She spent a year studying under former U.S. Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill.

PSEA President Aaron Chapin said the decision to recommend McClelland was led by rank-and-file PSEA members who met with and interviewed the candidate.

“PSEA’s recommendation of Erin McClelland is based on her extensive experience as a small business owner and project manager and her commitment to the idea that every child deserves a quality public education,” Chapin said.

“Erin has vowed to approach the role of treasurer with integrity and honesty with the goal of protecting our state resources, taxpayers, and public-sector workers.

“As treasurer and a member of the Public School Employees Retirement System Board, Erin will step up to protect the retirement security of Pennsylvania’s educators, support staff, and retirees. She has promised to support a safe and secure investment strategy for PSERS and to fight efforts to privatize public-sector pensions.

“Erin will work to ensure accountability and transparency in all state expenditures. She supports investments in public education and has voiced strong opposition to the diversion of taxpayer dollars to private school tuition scholarships.

“There is no better person to serve as our next treasurer, safeguarding our state’s tax dollars and standing with educators, support staff, and families across Pennsylvania. That is why PSEA is proud to recommend Erin McClelland to be Pennsylvania’s next treasurer.”

Chapin is a Stroudsburg Area middle school teacher and president of PSEA. An affiliate of the National Education Association, PSEA represents about 177,000 active and retired educators and school employees, aspiring educators, higher education staff, and health care workers in Pennsylvania.
