Key Issue: Educational Justice

Advocating educational justice for our students, schools, and communities in Pennsylvania.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

PSEA's DEI Statement

In May 2021, the PSEA House of Delegates overwhelmingly approved a New Business Item adopting the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion statement developed by the Racial Justice and Equity Task Force.

The DEI statement will help sharpen the Association’s focus on our long-held beliefs about equity and inclusion, and anchor the work we have ahead of us.

PSEA Educational Justice Committee

PSEA Educational Justice Committee

Established in 2018, the members of PSEA’s Educational Justice Committee are deeply passionate in addressing barriers to educational equity for all students.

The lack of adequate, equitable funding for all schools is at the core of these disparities and therefore a primary focus for our Committee. We firmly believe that PSEA and our members can be powerful agents for positive social change and we want to support them in any way we can.

The Committee is comprised of PSEA members from across every geographic region, representing all facets of public education in PA.

Committee Goals

  • Work to create safe, caring, mutually respectful environments where all PSEA members and students are honored and valued for their diverse cultural backgrounds and unique strengths
  • Provide a forum for deeper understanding of the intersection of multiple areas of injustice - e.g. race, gender, disability, LGBTQ+ and the impact it has in the educational environment
  • Elevate diversity, equity, and inclusion in the work of PSEA and focus on supporting members at the local and regional level to advance inclusive, equitable practices.
  • Committed to support learning about how injustice negatively impacts the educational outcomes of students. Understanding the issues and how PSEA/members can be part of the solution, as well as recognizing if we are part of the problem.
  • Create safer spaces for members to explore their own biases.

EdJustice Resources for Personal and Professional Growth

Resources curated by the EdJustice Committee that support professional learning and personal growth aimed at not only promoting the work of the committee but also at describing how PSEA members can promote educational justice principles.

The evolving list of resources includes recommended books, articles, videos, lesson plans, ideas, and ways to discuss educational justice with students and community members.
