RESPECT Initiative: Reduce Student Loan Debt

College graduates in Pennsylvania have the second highest average student loan debt in the nation, averaging $37,061 for members of the graduating class of 2018.* This burden costs young educators $200 to $300 a month, and presents a real barrier to attracting new educators to the profession.

The reason this is a top priority for PSEA is simple. People in our communities respect what educators do. That’s something PSEA members can be proud of.

But, with the educator shortage worsening, public education faces a growing crisis. PSEA is working to meet these challenges. That’s what PSEA’s RESPECT initiative is all about.
