Here’s what you need to know about the Patient Safety Act

  • The Patient Safety Act was written by nurses and will limit the number of patients a nurse can be assigned, depending on the level of care a patient needs.
  • Safe staffing in hospitals can reduce nurse burnout by 30 percent and reduce infections by over 6,000 per year, resulting in significantly decreased hospital re-admissions and financial savings for hospitals.
  • Josh Shapiro and Democratic leaders in the state House have made passing this bill a priority.
  • The House Health Committee plans to vote on this bill on May 2.
