The facts: Gov. Wolf restores nearly $1 billion in school funding cuts

Public education: Gov. Wolf’s number one priority

Since his first day as governor, Tom Wolf has made public education his top priority. The governor has restored the nearly $1 billion in school funding cuts he inherited when he took office.

Across Pennsylvania, public school students have seen the impact of these funding increases. In addition to restoring nearly $1 billion in school funding cuts, Gov. Wolf has accomplished the following.

School safety programs

Funding increased by $60 million

Career and technical education

Funding increased by $10 million

Students in career and technical education programs

Number of students in programs increased by 42 percent

High school graduation rate

Graduation rate increased to 86 percent

“When I took office, I inherited drastically underfunded schools that were suffering after Harrisburg cut $1 billion from education, the majority of which came from suburban, rural, and small-town schools. And over the last four years I have restored the full $1 billion dollars, I’ve expanded career and technical education, and our graduation rates are rising.”

Gov. Wolf won’t cut school funding – for any school district

Gov. Wolf supports Pennsylvania’s new school funding formula – and won’t support state funding cuts for any school district.

“Recently, we have received questions regarding the Governor’s policy on school funding. As has been demonstrated through his work with districts across the commonwealth, he does not support cutting funding to any districts. The Governor advocates for policies that achieve fair and adequate funding for all districts as quickly as possible. That means investing in all schools in Pennsylvania.”
